Bucks Partners with La Salle University’s Nonprofit Center
Certificate in nonprofit management will be launched this fall to enhance the skills of nonprofit staff and board members
Bucks County Community College has partnered with The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University to offer a certificate in nonprofit management starting this fall at Bucks’ Newtown campus.
The non-degree professional program consists of 10 full-day classes to enhance the skills of nonprofit staff and board members.
“With nearly 4,000 nonprofit organizations serving Bucks County, and thousands of people in the area who work for or serve nonprofit organizations, there is a strong need to offer the top-tier professional development The Nonprofit Center has been delivering for more than 35 years,” said Donna Kirn, director of continuing education and community programs at Bucks.
“The Nonprofit Center offers a wide range of high quality professional development classes, but until now, Bucks County residents had to travel into Philadelphia to take advantage of those opportunities,” added Kirn, “We are pleased that we can now make these proven programs available nearby at a reasonable cost.”
The Nonprofit Center offers some 70 educational programs in the Greater Philadelphia area every year. The Bucks County classes will use the same curriculum and be taught by the same professional instructors who teach in Philadelphia.
Laura Otten, director of The Nonprofit Center, said the curriculum covers the essential skills nonprofit leaders and board members need. Among these are management, governance, fundraising, finance, human resources, planning and evaluation, marketing, communications, and leadership. Participants may take as few as one class, or all 10 to earn a certificate issued jointly by The Nonprofit Center and Bucks County Community College.
“Bucks was an ideal partner because of its strong roots in the community as well as the wide range of certificate programs and personal enrichment courses it already offers,” Otten said. “We have a similar partnership with Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, which has been very successful in attracting students interested in enhancing their nonprofit skills to serve the Lehigh Valley area.”
