Bucks Seeks Aspiring Entrepreneurs for Start Me Up Challenge
Idea incubator and pitch competition will allow students the chance to win up to $3,000 in cash plus pro bono services; entry deadline is March 21
Bucks County Community College, whose Business Studies Department has launched careers for more than 50 years, seeks aspiring entrepreneurs to enter the second annual Start Me Up Challenge for a chance to win up to $3,000 in cash plus pro bono services.
This year, the contest is seeking social entrepreneurs – or those with a business idea that has a positive social or environmental impact in Bucks County. Budding entrepreneurs and business owners 16 years of age or older are eligible to enter.
Applications are due by midnight Wednesday, March 21. To submit an application, visit StartMeUpBucks.com. There is no fee to enter. Five finalists will appear in front of a panel of judges at a live pitch event at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 at the Gene & Marlene Epstein Campus at Lower Bucks in Bristol. Prizes are $3,000 for first place, $2,000 for second place, and $1,000 for third place. The winner also receives free business mentoring and coaching, pro bono services that could be worth thousands of dollars more.
Now in its second year, the Start Me Up Challenge is one of several steps the Business Studies Department is taking to increase its educational outreach to those who’d like to start their own business. Other opportunities include an Introduction to Entrepreneurship three-credit course; a dedicated “entrepreneur space” lab at the Epstein Campus at Lower Bucks; and “Starting New Ventures,” a six-week program in collaboration with Drexel University to explore entrepreneurship through intensive, experiential learning.
Bucks County Community College’s Business Studies Department offers 10 certificate programs and 13 associate degree majors, including Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, which is one of several accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Other programs with ACBSP accreditation are Business Administration, Accounting, Management/Marketing, Retail Management, and Paralegal.
