Accessing Your Course

Canvas (by Instructure)

Your course is using Canvas. If you are new to Canvas, please visit the Canvas Basics course space to become familiar with Canvas prior to the start of your course. No login is required to access this space.

You will be able to login to Canvas about two weeks prior to the start of your class. However, your course becomes available as of 1 AM on the official course start date.

Logging In

Log in to your Canvas course space at bucks.instructure.com

  • Username: Your username is the same for every system at Bucks.
  • Password: your Bucks Network password (used to log into any Bucks campus computer or to access any Bucks Library online database from off campus.)

If you do not know your Bucks Username, you can retrieve it by using the Find Your Username Form. Enter your Name, Birthday (mm/dd/yyyy) and either your 7 digit student ID number OR your social security number, then click Submit. Your Bucks username will display on the screen.

Note: Students are uploaded to Canvas several times a day. If you registered late, you won't be able to access Canvas until the next upload takes place.

Other Information about the Course

Thank you for your interest in Nutrition - HLTH 120N. I hope that you will benefit from the many experiences you will have to explore the science of nutrition. Please note that this course is an e-learning course. ALL aspects of the course (assignments, exams, and postings) are completed online through the Bucks County Community Collge coursespace.

In our class, we will explore the science of nutrition. The course will encourage the application of nutrition principles and enable you to implement good nutrition in your own life.

Orientation: Orientation is completed by accessing the course site at the start of the semester. Students will need to review the Course Syllabus and Course Schedule. A virtual chat session orienting you to the course will also be available during the first week.

This course uses a course management system called Canvas. It is recommended that students visit Canvas Basics, the online student orientation to Canvas. Additionally, students are encouraged to contact the Bucks Online office for assistance in understanding how to participate in e-learning courses. All of the recommended components contain information that you will need in order to decide if your computer meets the minimal requirements for accessing the course.

Course Materials: Byrd-Bredbenner, C., & Wardlaw, G. M. (2014). Wardlaw's perspectives in nutrition: A functional approach. (1st edition) USA: McGraw Hill. “Connect Plus Access Code” is needed for the course—this includes an e-book, Learn Smart and Nutrition Cal Plus. You can purchase the textbook bundled with an access code for Connect at the BCCC bookstore. Or, if you prefer to use an e-book, you can purchase access online. Please see further instructions in the Orientation Module on our course Canvas page. Communication: The course is designed so that you, the student, can benefit from various methods of communication with the instructor and your fellow students. This means that you will be required to utilize the numerous internet methods to communicate, send assignments, take tests and quizzes, and perform your own research. Remember, your success in this class will be directly linked to your utilization of the various tools and learning activities available to you.

Course Requirements: Some things that will be required for your effective participation in this course are the following items:

Access to a Computer with Internet Access. Active participation in on-line discussions. Timely completion of required examinations and class assignments. All coursework is submitted through the online course space.
