Aleks Math Placement Retest
Do you want to increase your math placement score and possibly skip a math class or two?
You have just finished taking the math placement assessment using Accuplacer. This is an assessment, not a test. It is only defining what you know so that your math placement can be accurate.
If students would like the opportunity to increase their Mathematics Placement score and possibly skip one or more mathematics classes, they can retake the Placement test using the program ALEKS.
The ALEKS program is an assessment tool, not a test. It is only defining what a student knows so that his/her math placement can be accurate.
After finishing the first ALEKS assessment in the Testing Center, a student will be given six months to remediate at home using the ALEKS program. After working in the program 5 or more hours, he/she will be given the opportunity to retake the assessment again at the Testing Center. Each level increase means a class that a student can skip. Think of the time (semester/s) and money one could potentially save! The ALEKS assessment can be taken a total of four times.
Below are some questions that you might have…
Is there a fee for using ALEKS Assessment and the Prep Learning Module?
The cost to retake the mathematics placement test is a one time $30 fee. Students can go to the following link for payment.
This retest option is available at all three of our campuses. A Bucks Student ID Number and a current form of photo identification are required to test. Appointments are not necessary. Please refer to our placement testing webpage below which will provide you with our most updated Placement Testing Schedule:
Please remember to bring a print out of your receipt from PayPal indicating the testing fee paid.
Can I retake the ALEKS Placement Assessment?
Yes, you may take up to 4 placement assessments to attempt to change your placement score. However, to make each attempt worthwhile, it is important that you spend time working in your ALEKS Prep and Learning Module in between placement assessments so that you can improve your skills. In fact, you will not be able to “just” retake the placement assessment. You must wait 48 hours between placement assessments and you will have to work in the learning mode for at least 5 hours before being permitted to retake the placement assessment.
Are ALEKS Placement Assessments proctored?
Yes, all assessments must be proctored at Bucks' Testing Center in Newtown. Students can work in the learning module at home, but in order to take and/or retake the assessments, students must go to the testing center.
How long will a placement assessment take to complete?
Placement assessments require approximately 90 minutes to complete, but the amount of time will vary by student. There will be a maximum of 30 questions and with a maximum of two hours to take the assessment.
May I use a calculator while using ALEKS?
ALEKS will provide an on-screen calculator if you need one to complete a particular problem.
Otherwise, you may not use a calculator.
May I use any other resources during a placement assessment?
You may only use a pen or pencil, paper, and the resources provided by ALEKS. You may not receive assistance from friends, family, other websites, textbooks, or any other resource not provided by ALEKS. Using outside resources may lead to improper placement and ultimately course failure.
How do I get started in the Learning Mode after I take the retest at the Testing Center?
Make sure you have your log in name and the password that you used while taking the ALEKS assessment in the Testing Center.
Go to “aleks.com” and log in. Then follow the directions and/or you can also refer to the document How to Start your Learning Module to improve your score.
What are ALEKS Progress Assessments?
While working in a Prep and Learning Module, you will periodically complete progress assessments to solidify your gains in knowledge. This assessment is NOT the same as a placement assessment. Remember, you will have a total of four attempts at retaking your math placement assessment.
Does progress in an ALEKS Prep and Learning Module count toward a math placement change?
NO, you must complete a new placement assessment to change your placement result. Remember, all placement assessments MUST be proctored at the Bucks Testing Center in Newtown. Only your placement assessment results will be used for course placement. Remember you will have a total of 4 placement assessments.
Can I change to a different Prep and Learning Module later?
No, you may only use one Prep and Learning Module. If you are unsure which module to select, use the module recommended by ALEKS.
What if I placed into the class I wanted?
Congratulations! Continue to use your Prep and Learning Module to improve your chances for success in that course. The placement result above is the minimum preparation required for your course! Take advantage of the targeted review and learning features in ALEKS to get a better grade in your class.
