Equipment Lending Policy

Purpose

To establish the guidelines associated with borrowing equipment from Bucks County Community College Learning Resources in order to support the educational research and activities of currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff. All equipment is property of Bucks County Community College.

 

Eligibility  

  • Equipment lending services are available to currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff of the College with a valid patron account in good standing.
  • Any eligible person wanting to borrow equipment must complete the Equipment Borrower’s Agreement. This agreement shall be valid for the duration of the Academic Year in which it is completed. Borrowers shall complete one form per Academic Year. Proof of identification must be presented at time of form completion. Proof of identification includes both a valid Bucks ID and a legal valid photo ID.

 

Borrowing Guidelines

  • Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Usage time for equipment checked out from the Library shall coincide with Library hours, terminating fifteen minutes before Library closing time.
  • Usage time for equipment checked out from the Tutoring Center shall coincide with Tutoring Center hours, terminating at Tutoring Center closing time.
  • Borrowers are solely responsible for equipment during the check out period, including damage, loss, and theft. 
  • Borrowers shall not leave equipment unattended while checked out.
  • Borrowers may only check out one of each type of device at a time.
  • Borrowers may not redistribute equipment to any other person(s).

*Equipment specific borrowing guidelines by user:

Student:

  • Laptops and netbooks are available to use in the library to support the completion of a course activity or assignment for three hours. File saving on the laptop and netbook shall be the responsibility of the user. All content will be erased upon return.
  • Tutoring center laptops are available to use in the Tutoring Center only for the duration of Tutoring Center hours. File saving on the laptop and netbook shall be the responsibility of the user. All content will be erased upon return.
  • Snowball mics are available to use in the library to support the completion of a course activity or assignment.
  • iPads, iPod touch and iPod classic are available to those students required to use the device to complete an assignment or classroom activity. File saving on the iPad, iPod touch and iPod classic shall be the responsibility of the user. All content will be erased upon return.
  • Users are responsible for replacement of batteries in the handheld video cameras.

 

Faculty/Staff:

  • Laptops, netbooks, snowball mics, and clickers (student response systems) are available to reserve to check out and use off-campus. Reservation of equipment must be submitted to media@bucks.edu 48 hours prior to intended use. File saving on the laptop, iPad/iPod touch, and netbook shall be the responsibility of the user. All content will be erased upon return.
  • iPads, iPod touch,  iPod classic, and clickers (aka student response systems) are available for faculty to pilot or implement a mobile-based learning project. To provide adequate support, the project idea and equipment reservation must be submitted to the Faculty Liaison, Learning Technologies (media@bucks.edu) one week in advance.
  • Users are responsible for replacement of batteries in the handheld video cameras.

 

 

Borrowing Procedure

  • At time of check out, a borrower must present a valid Bucks ID card and a valid photo ID. The transaction shall be recorded in the library system as the equipment will be charged to the user account and discharged upon return.
  • Equipment checked out in the Library must be returned at least fifteen minutes before the Library closing time.
  • Tutoring Center laptops must be returned by Center closing time.
  • One renewal for the loan period designated per equipment type in the borrowing guidelines chart above.

 

Penalties and Fees

  • Loss of equipment shall result in charges equivalent to the estimated replacement cost indicated in this agreement.
  • Damage to equipment and peripherals shall result in a charge to cover repair or replacement.
  • Infractions of this policy shall result in barring of equipment usage privileges for the duration of the academic year.
