SSH - Secure Shell
SSH (Secure Shell) is software that allows for secure FTP and shell access to servers. SFTP is the only file transfer protocol supported by the college on its servers.
SSH Software for Windows Users
The software we recommend for secure FTP and secure shell access on Windows is called SSH (Secure Shell). A FREE (for individual use) version is available for download by using the following link:
- Click the download link (above) and select "Save" to download the file. Save the file to a location where you will easily be able to find it, such as your desktop.
- When the file has finished downloading, double-click the filename (sshsecureshellclient-3.2.9.exe) where you saved it to launch the installer.
- When the installation has finished, an icon for SSH will be placed on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
- Your instructor will provide details about how to connect to the server you will be using in your class.
SSH Software for MAC Users
We recommend Cyberduck for secure FTP and secure shell access by Mac users. A FREE (for individual use) version is available from the developer's website. While the software is distributed freely under the GNU Public License, an optional donation to assist with supporting the software's continued development is appropriate if you find the software valuable. Details can be found on the developer's website.
