Bioman High School Summer Academy

About the Academy

The Bioman High School Summer Academy is being offered to 16 rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have completed a high school biology course and have strong interests in hands-on laboratory work. During the four day summer experience students will manipulate DNA, extract and purify proteins from cells using industry-grade biotechnology equipment.

The academy will be held from July 17-July 20 2017 from 10:30 am to 4 pm in the biotechnology labs on the Newtown campus of Bucks County Community College. Cost of attendance is FREE and lunch will be provided at no cost to students.

Bioman Academy is being sponsored by the Bucks County Community College STEM Department College and the Northeast Biomanufacturing Center and Collaborative, NBC2, a National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education Center.

Registration Information

  1. Completion of high school at least one high school biology or chemistry course is required. Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their high school science teacher with their application. Attendance is required for all four days and students who can make this commitment will be given priority. Students who cannot commit to attending for all four days will be placed on the Wait List.
  2. Students will be selected to ensure a good representation of school districts and grade levels. A decision will be made by June 1, 2017. When the camp reaches the maximum capacity of 16 students, subsequent applicants will be placed on the Wait List and notified of any cancellations. When a cancellation occurs, all students on the wait list will be notified.
  3. Parents and guardians of students selected for the academy will be contacted with additional information regarding their approval/permission for their child’s participation in the Academy.
