Department of Kinesiology and Sport Studies

The Department of Kinesiology and Sport Studies is located in the Linksz Pavilion.  It offers 3 transfer majors leading to an Associate of Science degree or Associate of Arts degree.  Those majors are Exercise Science, Health and Physical Education (teacher education), and Sport Management.  The department also offers an 18-credit certificate program in Recreational Leadership. 

Students desiring to teach health/sport related concepts would select the major in health and physical education which has K-12 preparation for a teaching position in the public schools.

The purpose of the exercise science major is to prepare students for careers in the growing field of health and fitness.  Students are taught fundamental health and exercise science fundamental concepts in preparation to transfer to 4-year colleges.

The sport management program prepares students interested in sport and recreation careers in the private/commercial sector.  The program provides practical experiences and emphasizes critical thinking and application of knowledge in the areas of sport marketing, facility management, and event planning.

Facilities for the department include a multipurpose gymnasium, a fitness center, a pool, and a dance studio.
