VI. Catalog Course Description
This course satisfies the transfer requirements for Physical Education majors. Fundamental skills and strategies of basketball and softball are introduced with emphasis on learning, teaching, playing, and coaching using current national and state rules. Lifetime health benefits related to proper nutrition and exercise physiology are examined.
VII. Required Course Content and Direction
  1. Learning Goals:

    1. The student will learn that lifelong wellness is achieved and sustained by practicing habits that include regular physical exercise and proper nutrition. These concepts will be applied to the sports of basketball and softball. This course focuses is on the basketball and softball skills of learning the proper techniques of throwing, catching, hitting, shooting, passing, and dribbling.


    2. This course is to help the student learn the teaching techniques that would be used in presenting these skills to others. Teaching to students without the basic skills and having the ability to improve techniques of students with some basic background in the skills area.


    3. The principles of safety and safety equipment are also emphasized.


    4. Through regular practice and participation, this course offers an activity that will promote organic fitness, social, and mental wellness.


    5. The student will learn valid concepts of exercise physiology and how to apply them to basketball and softball.


    6. The student will learn valid concepts of nutrition and how to apply them to his own diet.


    7. The student will develop proficiency in the basic skill techniques of basketball and softball.


    8. The student will acquire knowledge of the history, rules, and fundamentals of basketball and softball.


    9. The student will become aware of, understand rational, and learn how to correct some of the common errors in basketball and softball that players make during the learning process.

    This course satisfies the requirements for the BCCC Core Curriculum.
