VI. Catalog Course Description
This survey course provides the student with an understanding of the complex factors that affect a business in its desire and ability to trade with countries outside the United States. Topics include international trade theories, monetary systems, and the global aspects of economic growth.
VII. Required Course Content and Direction
  1. Course Learning Goals

    Students will:

    1. explain the historical growth of international trade;
    2. compare and contrast the major international trade theories;
    3. explain the rationale for the international monetary system and how it affects exports and imports; and
    4. describe the necessary economic analysis which should be completed before trading with or investing in another country.

    Students will:

    1. understand the factors affecting the emerging global economy
    2. understand the differences in the major world political economies
    3. identify the differences in culture
    4. review the evolution of international trade theory
    5. describe the global trading system
    6. understand the analysis of foreign direct investment
    7. explain the present and future movement towards future regional economic integration
    8. explain the foreign exchange market
    9. understand the global monetary system
    10. understand the factors that are important to consider when formulating a global strategy
    11. describe the process that is required of a business that plans to enter foreign markets
    12. review the important elements of a global marketing plan
    13. describe the activities involved in global operations management
    14. understand the factors involved in global human resource management
