V. Other Pertinent Information
Students spend between six and nine hours per week outside of class in activities such as learning vocabulary, reading, completing written exercises, working on pronunciation, preparing oral presentations, and working with multimedia and websites that accompany the text.
VI. Catalog Course Description
This course builds on the instruction from ITAL250. Students continue to develop greater proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing Italian through study of more complex language structure, discussion of current Italian media, reading more difficult literary texts, and deeper study of the culture and history of Italy.

      2. recognize and respond appropriately and with increasing detail to the most common spoken situations;
      3. demonstrate ability to write increasingly complex sentences in Italian; and
      4. explain an increasing number of aspects of life in Italy.

    Grammatical Topics:
    • Express the conditional and the future tense
    • Learn the uses of si and impersonal constructions
    • Use relative pronouns
    • Learn present subjunctive with impersonal constructions
    • Use the imperfect subjunctive
    • Imperfect and past perfect subjunctives
    • Learn hypothetical conditions using imperfect subjunctive and conditional

    Vocabulary and Social Contexts:
    • More nouns and verbs used to talk about work and city life in the Italian-speaking world
    • Nouns and verbs relating to family relationships
    • Nouns and verbs relating to pollution and other environmental problems

    • Cultural Contexts:
      • More nouns and verbs to discuss Italian art, design, classical and popular music
      • Reporting and discussing Italian traditions and changes
      • Discussing causes and effects of current cultural events

        2. complete assignments, such as short compositions and grammatical exercises;
