VI. Catalog Course Description
This lecture and laboratory course provides a non-calculus overview of applied analog electronics. Topics include: introduction to semiconductors; diode characteristics and applications; bipolar junction and field effect transistors and applications; basic operational amplifier circuits; measurement applications; analog to digital conversion.
VII. Required Course Content and Direction
  1. Course Learning Goals

    Students will:

    1. analyze the theory behind and the applications of applied analog electronics;
    2. evaluate analog electronic devices through the use of analysis techniques;
    3. construct, measure, and evaluate analog electronic circuits;
    4. analyze the concepts and applications of analog and digital conversion;
    5. employ teamwork; and
    6. write scientific laboratory reports.

    The following topics are presented:

    1. introduction to semiconductors
    2. diode characteristics and applications
    3. introduction to transistors
    4. bipolar junction transistors and applications
    5. field effect transistors and applications
    6. introduction to operational amplifiers
    7. basic operational amplifier circuits
    8. measurement applications
    9. analog to digital conversion
