VI. Catalog Course Description
Students will work in teams to complete the logical design, documentation, and limited prototyping for an original digital game. All materials produced in this class will be used as the basis for developing a complete and functional game in CISG222 Game Studio II - Prototyping, Playtesting, and Production the following semester.
VII. Required Course Content and Direction
  1. Learning Goals:

    Course specific -The students will be able to:

    1. demonstrate a working knowledge of basic project management concepts;
    2. perform their specified role on the game development team and successfully work with other team members;
    3. develop a work breakdown schedule, production schedule, and milestone checklist;
    4. display an understanding of level, character, story, puzzle, and game play design;
    5. demonstrate a working knowledge of game design/simulation and the modern game development process by designing an electronic game/simulation; and
    6. present a completed design document, production schedule and partial prototype for instructor and peer review at the end of the semester.

    1. Overview of the roles of the game design team
    2. Introduction to basic project management concepts and tools
    3. Game design documentation
    4. Storyboarding
    5. Story design
    6. Character design
    7. Level and puzzle design � tools and theory

    9. Prototyping
  3. Assessment Methods for Core Learning Goals:

    This course is not in the Core.

    All Discipline-Specific Course Objectives will be assessed as follows:

      The student will apply game design concepts and principles to solve problems. Formal assessment will consist of open-ended questions reflecting theoretical and applied situations, as well as laboratory exercises and development of games for education and recreation.
