VI. Catalog Course Description
Students learn how to move from the role of the student to that of the professional in cinema/video and multimedia. Students develop portfolios, and present their work. They explore career opportunities and understand the standards of work expected by 4- and 5-year transfer institutions.
VII. Required Course Content and Direction
  1. Learning Goals:

    1. Course
    2. Students will:
      1. prepare a complete, professional dossier of their cinema/video and/or multimedia work, including resume, cover letter, demo reel, web site or CD/DVD project;
      2. assess and critically review each of the elements in the professional portfolio;
      3. prepare a presentation outline for a 10-minute oral presentation of the portfolio;
      4. prepare and deliver a formal, oral presentation using appropriate images (slides or digital images) to explain the art and ideas represented in the portfolio; and
      5. practice constructive self-criticism and constructive criticism of others' speeches.

      Oral Presentation
      Students will:
      1. make effective oral presentations, with the possibility of including content-specific supplementary material and/or media.
  2. Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities:

    1. select examples of their work to include in a demo reel, web site or CD/DVD project
    2. demonstrate an ability to properly cut and compile work as appropriate
    3. present professionally created and labeled demo reel, web site or CD/DVD project
    4. develop an artist's resume
    5. compose an artist's statement
    6. compose a formal request for information from transfer institution
    7. synthesize all of the elements into a successful presentation package
    8. develop and present an informative 10-minute oral presentation explaining their ideas and their work to faculty and peers
    9. attend lectures presented by representatives from professional cinema/video and multimedia schools related to transfer, possible employment, and legal materials related to cinema/video and multimedia technology
  3. Assessment Methods for Core Learning Goals:

    1. Course
    2. Student assessment is based on the successful completion of assigned projects, the presentation of projects, and the demonstrated use of appropriate vocabulary in oral critiques.

    4. Student assessment is based on the successful creation of a complete professional portfolio of work, including a letter of inquiry, an artist's resume, an artist's statement. The assessment of the Core III Goals and Objectives for Oral Presentation is based on the organization and content of the student's oral presentation, together with the elocution skills demonstrated by the student.
  4. Reference, Resource, or Learning Materials to be used by Students:

    Students visit the college library for materials needed to enhance their career choices and to research college catalogs available in the department for transfer and scholarship information. Students maintain a notebook, which contains written evaluations of each visiting speaker. See course format.
