VI. Catalog Course Description
Ear Training III applies sight-singing and dictation to chromatic tonal relationships (including modal mixture and secondary dominants). A continuation of Ear Training II and intended for music majors, MUSC215, must be taken in conjunction with MUSC211 Music Theory III.
VII. Required Course Content and Direction

      1. sight-sing melodies accurately and take musical dictation by applying compatible solfege methodologies; and
      2. sight-sing accurately and take musical dictation with regard to melodies and harmonies involving modal mixture and secondary dominants.

  2. Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities:

    1. Practice applications of movable-do solfege with respect to diatonic melodies and harmonies as a brief, intensive review.
    2. Define and apply principles of movable-do chromatic solfege with respect to inflected scale degrees, scalar variants in minor keys, modal mixture; perform related notation and aural identification tasks.
    3. Practice modulation via secondary dominants to closely-related keys, using movable-do chromatic solfege; related notation and aural identification tasks.
    4. Practice sight-singing and dictation in quintuple meters; related notation and aural identification tasks.

    2. Course-specific content will be assessed via homework assignments (workbook and instructor-generated), quizzes, and exams. A departmentally-generated final comprehensive examination will be administered to assess all subject matter components that are detailed in the Learning Goals for this course.
