Catalog Course Description
MUSC116 applies sight-singing and dictation to diatonic relationships (including qualities and inversions of triads and seventh chords, non-harmonic tones and modulation to closely related keys). A continuation of Ear Training I and intended for music majors, MUSC116 must be taken in conjunction with MUSC112 Music Theory II. -

- sight-sing melodies accurately and take musical dictation by applying compatible solfege methodologies; and
- sight-sing accurately and take musical dictation with regard to melodies and harmonies involving qualities and inversions of triads and seventh chords, non-harmonic tones, and modulation to closely related keys.

Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities:
- Vocally practice movable-do solfege system by demonstrating the abilities to sing:
- in minor mode with appropriate minor solfege syllables
- simple diatonic melodies using some minor intervals
- supertonic, mediant, and submediant triads
- simple diatonic melodies outlining 7th chords
- Conduct, vocalize, and notate compound meters, triplets, duplets, and syncopation.
- Notate diatonic melodies in all minor keys (melodic dictation).
- Notate diatonic melodies in compound meters (melodic dictation).
- Notate melodies, which outline ii, vi, iii, and 7th chords (melodic dictation).
- Notate and identify simple harmonic progressions in minor (harmonic dictation).
- Notate all diatonic triads, their qualities, and inversions (harmonic dictation).
- Identify non-dominant 7th chords.
