  6. Catalog Course Description

    This course is a survey of the American experience from the age of discovery to the revolutionary convulsions of the late 18th century. Major topics include European antecedents and the dynamics of America's social, cultural, economic, and political life during these early years.

        1. recount the history the United States from the initial discovery of the American continents by Europeans through Early Republican Period and the Election of 1800;
        2. identify the major reasons behind the outbreak of the Revolutionary War;
        3. recount the course and conduct of the Revolutionary War;
        4. analyze the evolution of Colonial Anglo-American society, culture, and politics and its associated institutions; and
        5. analyze the inter-relationship of developing colonial institutions and tensions to the shaping of American nationalism and its unique constitutional order.
