The Art of Chain Maille- The Byzantine Bracelet

Design and finish a Byzantine chain bracelet, a sequential chain design, known as the Birdcage, King's Braid, Idiot's Delight, and Byzantine.  This popular gold or silver link chain incorporates a rope-like texture, intriguing textural design, and drapes gracefully about the wrist.  Please bring chain-nose pliers, flat-nose pliers, and an awl to class.

Beginning Horsemanship

This is a great class for children who love horses and want to get started on the right foot. Learn all the basics before you start riding lessons. Kids have fun interacting with other children, and learning about horses too! The children work with ponies and miniature horses that are just their size. AARP Safe Driving Course

This eight-hour classroom course is designed especially for motorist age 50 and older.  It covers normal changes in vision, hearing and reaction time, and provides practical techniques to compensate for these changes.  The program fosters safer driving practices, continued mobility, and a discount in auto insurance in a majority of states.

College Entrance Board Tutoring Course (SAT/PSAT) Math & English

This 21-hour course includes diagnostic tests, practice sessions, and homework assignments to prepare for the Math and English sections of the SAT.  We’ll provide individualized instruction to improve test scores for College entrance.

Drivers Education

This 30-hour theory course will cover classroom instruction on the Pennsylvania Driver’s manual and all phases of defensive driving.  We’ll cover preparing yourself to drive, risk taking and driving, sharing the road with trucks, bicyclists, and other motorists, adverse weather conditions, effects of drug and alcohol abuse, and rules of the road.  Completion of this course with approved on-the-road driving instruction (arranged individually with instructor or another driving school) may make beginner teen drivers eligible for reduced insurance rates.  As the state requires that this class be a full 30 hours, absences are not permitted- a list of our classes throughout Bucks County will be provided for needed make-up sessions.

Writing

In Your Own Words - Personal Stories and How to Get the Down on Paper

Memoirs and autobiographies are enjoying unprecedented popularity. Both in-class and at-home writing exercises, students will learn to identify and develop their own “voice” and personal narrative, which can be turned into essays, articles, or book excerpts.  Students will read and critique one another’s work in a supportive environment, while also studying the work of well-known memoirist.  All levels welcome.

Getting Your Work Published: A Seminar- One Night Class

Getting published for the first time can be a complicated and confusing process.  Published author Hope Donahue, “Beautiful Stranger: A Memoir”, will discuss all aspects of publication, from first draft to published work.  How to write the perfect query letter; finding the right agent; book proposals that grab attention; how to sell your essay, short story, or magazine article; writers’ conferences and networking; self-publishing and vanity press; contracts and royalties; and dealing with rejection.  For all writing genres- bring your questions!

Hauntings with Charles Adams III, Supernatural Expert

Delve into the paranormal with one of the leading authorities on the supernatural, Charles Adams III, author of more than 25 books on “sightings” in the United States and Europe.  Visit two establishments in New Hope, and then travel to Tamaqua for lunch in a haunted restaurant.  Conclude with a private tour of Jim Thorpe, home of the Molly Maguires, including the infamous Carbon County prison, perhaps the most haunted jail on the East Coast.

Homes of Heroes in History

Tour four homes in the Bucks County area that played significant roles in both local and American history.  Visit the Moland House, General Washington’s headquarters where he first met the Marquis de Lafayette, Graeme Park, the only surviving residence of a colonial Pennsylvania governor; historic Craven Hall for a colonial cooking demonstration; and Summerseat, “The House of Patriots,” believed to be the only house in America that was home to two signers of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.  Learn about the architecture and period styles of the houses, the homes’ residents, and the events that occurred in the local countryside, including the Battle of Crooked Billet.

A Hudson Valley Christmas

Usher in the holiday season at two of the Hudson Valleys most distinguished and magnificent homes.  Begin with a private tour of the neoclassical mansion Boscobel. Offering a view of the Hudson River and the Highlands, the seventeenth century mansion is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Federal-style architecture in the United States.  The afternoon features a private tour of Wilderstein, renowned for its Victorian Queen Anne architecture and lavish interiors. Learn about the importance of the two homes, compare the styles of architecture and period furnishings, and the various families who lived there and their significance in national history, including. Duncan Phyfe and Franklin Roosevelt.
