Lego Robots - Camp Filled

Take on the challenge of robotics engineering by programming a Lego Mindstorm Robot. Learn how robots think and respond as you teach the robot to sense the world, to feel, see, hear, move, and talk back. Teams will use Lego’s NXT software in a series of challenges developed by Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute and used in classrooms around the world. Mountain Biking / Disc Golf

Mountain Biking - Enjoy Tyler Park all day, then enjoy an end of the week road trip to the technical trails at Core Creek Park. In this combo class you will learn all about mountain biking: trail riding, bike maintenance and bike safety as well as the exciting sport of disc golf. Also included are proper rider positioning, controlled braking and slow speed technical maneuvering, pedaling cadence/gear use, and proper technique for climbing and descending. You must provide your own multi-geared mountain bike. All bikes should be tuned and given a safety inspection ahead of time. For questions call Endurance Sports (215-369-0225). Disc Golf - Disc Golf is a sport similar to golf except the equipment is a disc (Frisbee) that is thrown into metal baskets strategically placed throughout the course. Basketball

This exciting clinic is designed to teach boys and girls the essential fundamentals of basketball. Stop Motion is a powerful animation technique that makes static objects appear to be moving. In this camp, you will use Lego bricks and found objects. What’s Up Doc? Exploring Medical Careers

We have all seen the following scenes played out on television shows – “the patient is crashing, the trauma team jumps into action. Is there a blocked airway? What are the respiration rate, heart rate and rhythm? Is there evidence of trauma or internal bleeding? Obvious fractures? Pupils round and reactive to light?” Would you know what to do if you were presented with any of these conditions? Here is an excellent opportunity to make the life and death decisions made every day by medical professionals. This camp is just what the doctor ordered if you are interested in exploring careers in the medical world. You will experience patient care scenarios via computer simulations and interactions with SimMan, a programmable “patient” with real life functionality. Baseball - Pitching & Hitting Clinic

Boys and girls, here is your chance to hone in on the essentials of baseball - pitching and hitting! Emphasis will be placed on learning the proper techniques of these two important components of the game but there will also be time for skill development in catching, throwing, fielding, base running, base stealing and bunting. Each day will be broken into four mini-sessions. The first three sessions will focus on skill development and the fourth session will be for advanced play, swimming or whiffle ball. Beginner’s Lacrosse for Boys & Girls

Learn the hottest sport around! The instruction is for boys and girls looking to better their skills. The focus will be placed on drills, skills and rules applicable to both the girls’ and boys’ game, which are very important toward the development of a complete lacrosse player. Boys and girls will also be split into separate groups so that individual regulations can be covered. Conditioning and running essential to the game are incorporated into all skills. Claymation

This camp will show you basic techniques of clay modeling and animation used to create a video with claymation! You will learn how to make wire armatures for creating movement in sculptures and to build a scenic background for your backdrop. Basketball

This exciting clinic is designed to teach boys and girls the essential fundamentals of basketball. You will learn all aspects of the game including basketball conditioning, dribbling, ball handling, passing, shooting, screening, offensive-defensive techniques, and rebounding. We will have competitions for shooting, 5 on 5, 3 on 3, dribbling and more. The staff will instruct and evaluate each player’s performance and level of improvement. Instructions will be given on an individual basis by outstanding camp staff! Claymation

This camp will show you basic techniques of clay modeling and animation used to create a video with claymation! You will learn how to make wire armatures for creating movement in sculptures and to build a scenic background for your backdrop. You will also learn how to use a video camera and a tripod along with basic video capture and editing techniques. At the end of the week, take home animations made in your own and group projects.

Wearable Art

Bring a clothing article of your own choosing to deconstruct and recreate into a new garment or an individualized piece of textile art, such as a wall hanging, bed quilt, pillow, etc. You will spend time exploring concepts such as color, texture, garment design & construction, patchwork, simple embroidery, embellishment and finishing techniques. Design your project with instructor input or advice, but the actual cutting, sewing, deconstructing and finishing will be done independently by you - the designer!

Fabulous Fishing

Learn how to safely fish and enjoy the art of fishing each day. All equipment and bait will be supplied. (You may bring your own rod.) Inline Skating

Designed with safety in mind, this beginner’s In-Line Skating clinic will give you an opportunity to learn the proper techniques of In-Line Skating. Basic safety information will begin with equipment fit, maintenance, and proper use. The basic skills taught will be forward movement, braking and turning. The clinic is structured so that those who quickly master the basics can move on to more advanced skills. You will proceed at your own comfort level. Requirements: Each participant will be required to have a skate with a rear brake, a helmet, and protective gear (elbow, wrist and knee pads). Stop Motion is a powerful animation technique that makes static objects appear to be moving. In this camp, you will use Lego bricks and found objects.
