Everyone who plans to register for the Nurse Aide Training Program must first complete the TABE (Tests of Adult Basic Education) assessment test. The TABE is a series of norm-referenced tests designed to measure achievement of basic skills. The content areas measured are reading and mathematics. The TABE takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete.
The scores that a student obtains on the TABE do not automatically include or exclude them from the Nurse Aide Training Program. The scores are used as a way for the Program Coordinator to advise students with regard to their ability to successfully compete the program. If a student demonstrates difficulty in a particular area, the Program Coordinator may direct the student toward remedial classes that may help to improve the student's skills. However, if the student completes all of the other registration requirements, they may choose to enter the program regardless of their assessment scores.
This Nurse Aide Assessment test is required prior to taking the Nurse Aide Program. It may be waived if the student has evidence of taking college credit courses. C. Bonelli, RN, MSN
