Opportunities for Incoming Students and Outside Scholarships

Barbara and Paul Mathews Arts Scholarship ($1,300)

(Annual Application Deadline: June 1)

The scholarship is intended for current or future BCCC students who are majoring or intend to major in one of the programs within the Arts Department. Consideration will be given to those who meet the following requirements:

  • Currently enrolled or intend to enroll at BCCC for the fall semester after the award is made in the spring.
  • Currently majoring in or intend to major in one of the programs within the Arts Department.
  • Intend to re-enroll or enroll in a minimum of six (6) credits in the fall semester after the award is made in the spring.
  • Must submit a short personal profile and a short essay that describes their educational and career goals.
  • Must submit a letter of recommendation
  • There is no minimum grade point average requirement.

BEAN, The Christine Jordan Memorial Scholarship
(Tuition and fees for two academic years at in-county rate)

(Annual Application Deadline: April 1)

The scholarship is intended to aid current or future BCCC students who are in recovery from drug addiction. Consideration will be given to those who meet the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of a drug rehabilitation program.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits in a program in one of the College’s six academic departments, or in a non-credit certificate program.
  • Must intend to graduate with an associate’s degree or certification.
  • Must indicate the amount of credits needed to graduate with an associate’s degree or certification.
  • Must submit an essay that describes the goals they wish to achieve as well as how they plan to help others in need.
  • There is no minimum grade point average requirement.
  • Committed to abstain from drugs and alcohol for their lifetime.
  • At all times, candidates/recipient must be in good academic standing and in conformance with the College’s Code of Conduct; both will be verified by the Foundation.

Bucks Emerging Entrepreneurs Scholarship (Tuition and fees for 3 credits at in-county rate)

(Annual Application Deadlines: November 1 and April 1)

This scholarship is intended for current or incoming BCCC students who have an interest in being self-employed one day. Consideration will be given to those who meet the following requirements:

  • Curently attending BCCC or intend to enroll in the semester after the award is made.
  • Intend to enroll or re-enroll in a minimum of six (6) credits in one of BCCC's academic departments the following semester after the scholarship is awarded.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Applicants who are not currently attending BCCC MUST submit their high school transcripts to the Foundation Office on or before the application deadline.
  • Must answer the required essay question(s) on the application.
  • Must submit a letter or recommendation from either a high school official, BCCC faculty or staff member, or current employer.

There is no grade point average requirement to apply for this scholarship. To verify financial need for this scholarship, applicants may be asked to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A recipient must make satisfactory academic progress once enrolled to receive the second installment of the scholarship.

Bridge to Higher Education Scholarship (up to $3,000)

(Annual Application Deadline: June 1)

This scholarship is intended for the Lower Bucks County community’s neediest students who don’t have the financial means to pursue a higher education degree, but nonetheless wish to enroll at BCCC in the fall semester. Students from the following populations are eligible to apply:

  • Graduating Bucks County public high school students
  • Graduating Bucks County Technical High School students
  • GED graduates who reside in Bucks County
  • Presently enrolled in the Bucks County Opportunity Council's (BCOC) Self-Sufficiency Program who intend to enroll at BCCC for the first time (a program specific application that can be obtained from the BCOC must be filled out)
  • Intending to enroll in at least nine (9) creidts as a first-year student at BCCC in the fall after the award is made in the summer. 
  • Preference is given to students from single parent households.
  • Preference is given to students who maintained a job for at least six (6) months during each calendar year while attending high school.

There is no grade point average requirement to apply for this scholarship. To verify financial need for this scholarship, applicants may be asked to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A recipient must make satisfactory academic progress once enrolled to receive the second installment of the scholarship.

Center for Independent Living of Bucks County Scholarship ($500)

Awarded to a student who receives services from BCCC's Accessibility Office.

Council Rock Graduate STEM Scholarship ($1,000) 

(Annual Application Deadline: April 1)

This scholarship is intended to benefit a Bucks County high school graduate from the Council Rock School District (North and South). Preference is given to students residing in Northampton Township. Students must be applying to BCCC with the intention of enrolling as a full-time (minimum of 12 credits) freshman student majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, engineering or computer science in BCCC’s Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Applicants must submit their latest high school transcript, document community service activities at the high school level, and be in good academic standing (a minimum grade point average of 2.5) at the time of the application. Prior recipient is eligible to reapply for this scholarship if he/she intends to continue the program as a full-time student and has achieved a minimum 2.5 GPA for the past academic year. Preference is given to the prior recipient if he/she decides to apply.

Danny DeGennaro Art Award ($500)

(Annual Application Deadline: June 1)

This scholarship is intended to benefit a current or incoming BCCC student who is or is intending to major in the arts. Applicants must meet with following requirements at the time of application:

  • Currently enrolled or intend to enroll in BCCC in the following fall semester after the award is made in the spring.
  • Intending to enroll or re-enroll in a minimum of six (6) credits in the fall semester after the award is made in the spring.
  • Majoring or intending to major in one of the following programs within the Arts Department: Cinema/Video Production, Fine Arts, Fine Woodworking, Graphic Design, Multimedia, or Photography. 
  • Must submit a letter of recommendation.
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a sample artistic work in any medium, preferably one that highlights the Danny DeGennaro statue in front of the Hicks/Allied Health Buildings on the Newtown campus. Please submit your sample in digital format to the Arts Department.

Fresh Start Scholarship ($300) 

(Annual Application Deadline: April 1)

Awarded to a returning or new student (age 25 or older) who has recently suffered a life experience (divorce, death in immediate family, alcohol or serious illness) that required rehabilitation or familial support. Open to all majors, no GPA requirement, but must have financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Gibb Foundation G.E.D. Scholarship ($500) 

(Annual Application Deadline: April 1)

Awarded to the student who, among all applicants, earned the highest score in the completion of his or her G.E.D. certification. This scholarship is open to all G.E.D. graduates who are currently attending or intend to enroll at BCCC.‌

Happ-Grover Fund of the Bucks County Foundation (up to $1,000) 

Awarded to students who reside in the Central Bucks School District. Eligibility is determined automatically when students apply for financial aid at BCCC.

Harry W. Fawkes Community Service Scholarship (minimum $500) 

(Annual Application Deadline: April 1)

Established by the friends and colleagues of Harry W. Fawkes as a tribute to his many years of service to the community, this scholarship provides financial assistance to graduates of Bucks County high schools, who reside in Bucks County, Pa., and intend to reside in Bucks County during the academic year for which the scholarship is awarded. Applicants must be or intend to enroll at BCCC on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 credits per semester), and must be in good academic standing and in conformance with the College's Code of Conduct.‌

Honors@Bucks Scholarship (Tuition and fees for 15 credits per semester for one academic year)

Kevin Zlock Veterans Family Endowment Scholarship (minimum $250) 

Established by Kevin Zlock, this scholarship provides financial assistance to active-duty service personnel and honorably discharged veterans of the United States armed forces and/or their spouses and dependents who are currently enrolled at Bucks County Community College. At the time of application, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Enrolled in a credit or non-credit program at BCCC.
  • A United States Veteran or a spouse or dependent of one (submit copy of honorable discharge or a letter certifying current service and eligibility for release from active duty).
  • A United States citizen.
  • Preference is given to applicants with financial need as determined by the BCCC Financial Aid Office.

KIM Scholarship Fund (up to $2,500) 

Awarded to incoming students who are graduating from a Bucks County high school. At the time of application, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Graduating from a Bucks County high school by June 2017.
  • Intend to enroll in a minimum of six (6) credits at BCCC for the following semester.
  • Possess a minimum 2.5 cumulative high school GPA. The student's official high school transcripts must be submitted to the Foundation Office on or before the application deadline.
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by BCCC's Financial Aid Office.
  • Must submit a letter of recommendation from a high school guidance counselor.
  • Preference is given to single women raising at least one child.

Penn Community Bank Scholarships

David M. Harris Honorary Scholarship ($2,500)

George W. Shaffer Memorial Scholarship ($2,500)

These scholarships are intended to benefit high school graduates from the following school districts: Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Bensalem, Morrisville, Pennsbury, Centennial, Central Bucks (East, West and South), Council Rock (North and South), New Hope/Solebury and Neshaminy. Students must be applying to BCCC with the intention of enrolling as full-time (minimum of 12 credits) freshman students. Applicants must document community service activities at the high school level and must be in good academic standing (a minimum grade point average of 2.0 which equals a “C” average) at their respective high school at the time of the application. Preference is given to students of customers and/or employees of First Federal of Bucks County. However, in the event that scholarship applicant finalists have identical credentials, the following rules apply:

  • The student demonstrating greater financial need will prevail.
  • The student of a customer will prevail over the student of an employee.

Applicants must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

The scholarship is open to all students who meet the following requirements at the time of application:

  • Enrolled in BCCC's Practical Nursing Program.
  • Graduate of a Bucks County public high school. Preference is given to students who graduated from the Council Rock School District.
  • Must possess and maintain a grade average of 85% or higher.  
  • The application must be accompanied by a written recommendation as well as a brief essay describing how this scholarship will help meet his/her educational and career goals.
